2 Week Appointment

Magda and I went for her 2 week check up at the pediatrician's today. Of course, I should mention that the appointment was originally scheduled for yesterday, but I failed to ever write it down in my calendar. If asked, I would have sworn that the appointment was suppose to be tomorrow.

Anyway, Magda has regained her birth weight (she's at 7 pounds, 8/10 of an ounce) and is 20-1/2" long. I had to hold her while she got her foot pricked for the newborn screens that needed to be done. Thankfully, they only needed to do one prick which actually required 2 bandaids once all samples had been taken. She did fairly well with the heel prick. Sadly, she then needed to be given her hep b shot which she didn't like at all. I admit I'm one of those mothers who tears when their babies get poked...poor thing was horribly outraged at her treatment...it was very sad.

If and when you have another baby and it's a boy, hope and pray you aren't in the vicinity when he gets circumcised.

I was in the room (with a partition) when Bryan was circumcised, and I thought he was dying of pain. I remember his cry very painful to hear.

YOUR NOT GOING TO CIRCUMCISE THEM ARE YOU?!?

I thought that was one of the plusses of marrying a European man.

Any boys we have won't be circumcised. This isn't something we had to discuss too much. "Like father, like son" has always been my opinion.

I think if you're going to have something traumatic like circumcision performed on your child that you absolutely have the responsibility to stay with him when it is being done, not go off somewhere so you don't have to witness the consequences of your decision. Plus, of course, you should demand anesthetic for your poor infant.

No, Jonathan is not circumcised. Meredith, you are right--it's definitely one of the plusses of marrying a European man, not having to have that discussion.

It boggles my mind that so many people here still routinely and unquestioningly practice genital mutilation of little boys because of some weird Victorian hangups from over a century ago.
