There's a creek that runs through the park behind our house. In that creek lives a variety of fauna - minnows, crawdads, turtles. Earlier this year, a nice size gold fish appeared there as well. It seemed like the perfect fishy place to live...until the hot, dry, Texas July started sucking the water slowly, but surely out of the section of the creek that Goldie called home. Day by day, Stepan and I would walk by the diminishing pond and ponder the extra inch of mud exposed on the banks.
This morning, we decided that enough was enough. The poor fish was living in an area about the size of my closet and containing less than a foot of water! It was time we took action. So we headed back to the house to collect a couple of buckets, the video camera, and some muddin' clothes.
Suffice it to say that the fish didn't enjoy the experience though it is now living in a much more water-stable environment, Stepan got fairly dirty, and we now have footage for an interesting home movie short. So stay tuned...I'm sure Stepan will post the movie as soon as it's ready for public consumption.
Posted by jfer at July 26, 2003 2:34 PMso where is the fish now...how does Homer like sharing his parents with another pet??
Posted by: mom (aka Rita) on July 27, 2003 12:47 PMI'm willing to take a gander to your question (aka Rita) and guess that Goldie is now living in a nice size aquarium at Stepan and Jenny's house or...They went out and bought one of those nice backyard ponds. How about it Jenny, am I close to being correct??
Posted by: Theresa on July 27, 2003 11:18 PMNot even close. We have no desire to own an aquarium or take care of fish. We moved the fish to a more stable area of the creek. It's a larger, deeper area and collects runoff from the surrounding neighborhoods so it's unlikely to ever dry up.
By the way, when we went by the fish's original habitat yesterday, it was completely dried up...nothing by mud and small, dead, silvery fish.
Posted by: I on July 28, 2003 8:35 AMwhat? The silverfish not good enough for saving? Why! Why!! Fish genociders!!!
Posted by: mermu on July 30, 2003 3:38 PMIt was their choice. If they had swam into the bucket, we would have saved them, too.
